Photography: Stories: Sri Lanka Med. Clinic

In April of 2006 I was fortunate enough to spend a week on the East Coast of Sri Lanka. I was there to document several US doctors' hosting of health clinics for the less fortunate. Every Sri Lankan I met either lost a friend or family member or both to the tsunami. Walking on the beach one morning amongst crumbled cement foundatoins - the ruins of former homes - I spotted a bone that had washed ashore. One of the doctors later told me, 'It is amazing how the ocean keeps coughing up its victims.' The bone was a child's femure.
